Midlife crisis-or midlife awaking?

I’ve written before about change—how it can be uncomfortable, unpredictable, and sometimes just plain hard. But every now and then, change arrives at exactly the right moment, and it’s exactly what you needed.

Lately, I’ve found myself reaching for things I never considered before. I’m pushing myself in new areas, exploring parts of life I never thought would matter to me. If you know me, you know that I’ve always put my family first. No question—if they call, I answer. If they text, I respond. If they need advice, I’m already giving it (sometimes even before they ask!). But now, I’m starting to look inward. I’m searching for purpose and relearning who I am. And honestly? It feels a little strange. I had my kids young, so in many ways, I’m still young. And I’m realizing I have this whole new chapter ahead of me. I want to challenge myself. Lately, that looks like getting more serious about fitness and exploring things that bring me joy—like pickleball! (I haven’t quite worked up the courage to join a league yet, but hey, it’s on my list.)

Is it a mid-life crisis? Maybe. But I like to think of it more as a mid-life awakening. I’m learning it’s okay to prioritize myself after so many years of caring for everyone else. I still show up for my people—always will—but now I’m learning to show up for me, too. Or at least, I’m trying.

So I want to encourage you—yes, you—to be intentional about YOU. Whether you’re in the thick of raising kids, caring for someone else, or like me, reclaiming your identity and purpose… give yourself that space. Your mental health and overall well-being matter. They’re not just “nice to have”—they’re essential for living a full, balanced life.

Love yourself. Invest in yourself. God only made one of you—and you are worth it.
